Of course, you’re going to drink a beer on National Beer Lovers Day. But you can make it more interesting by combining running with your beer. Here are seven ways you can celebrate your favorite day of the year.

Get running shoes with your suds

The Running Shop and Hops bills itself as California’s first running-specialty shoe store and craft beer taproom. A similar store opened in Colorado a few years ago called Shoes and Brews.

Run a beer mile

Four laps, four beers, one shot at glory. If you want to learn from a master, you can scrutinize the techniques and trials that are being experimented by elite runners like Lewis Kent. See him training up close, thanks to a new video by Canadian Running.

Juggle during a beer mile

If just running four laps while drinking four beers isn’t extreme enough for you, mix it up like Graydon Snider and juggle between beers. Bonus points if you can beat his time of 8 minutes, 34 seconds.

Find your trail

End your run with a Sufferfest Taper IPA or Epic Pilsner, which was created by two trail runner athletes. “Sufferfest Beer caters to people who love beer, and care about what they put in their bodies,” says CEO Caitlin Landesberg. “Simply put, we celebrate athletes.”

Join a run club

It started with the Hash House Harriers, a “drinking group with a running problem.” Today, you can find the Hashers worldwide as beer and running groups are exploding everywhere. Find a partial list here.

Turn a bar crawl into a run

“Why not run the bus route?” That was the logical conclusion Evan Johnston came up with to turn the Omaha Beer Week pub crawl into a beer run. You can do the same.

Sign up for a BeerFit race

This coast-to-coast race series has everything from a beer mile distance to a “power hour.” See the upcoming cities and sign up at runbeerfit.com.
