[GABF awards ceremony]
In just a few minutes, the Saturday evening session of GABF 2012 will kick off—the beginning of the end for this year’s festivities. What a crazy time it was. This year, the costumed beer geeks were in force, the atmosphere was incredibly festive and one couldn’t help notice the spike in female attendees. But, in the end, it was the beer that reigned king. It’s hard to illustrate just how amazing the beer was this year, but hopefully my posts over the last few days have helped. For the last time this year, here are some of my favorite pours from the festival. To anyone attending the session tonight: Hunt these down—and use the GABF smart-phone app to locate where the beer’s being poured.
This phenomenal saison’s aged in Sauvignon blanc barrels with lacto, resulting in a bright, tart brew with wonderful hints of grape, apple and touches of spice.
Red Rock Nut Brown
The GABF bronze winner is a sessionable one, with subtle chocolate, roasted malt and toasted bread, followed by a clean finish.
Trinity Oh Face!
Don’t miss out on this brewery. Oh Face! packs a huge punch: lemon, funky barnyard and spice. It’s bright, earthy and engaging.
Twain’s Billiards and Tap
Swing by here for a couple of great IPAs: Tropicalia IPA which features citra and Langhorne IPA with the earthy, pungent Simcoe variety.
Odell Woodcut No. 6
Here’s your opportunity to sample the sixth installment of the series. The tropical, tangerine and berry hop notes marry perfectly with the oaky vanilla, wood and toasted bread flavors.
Grimm Brothers The Farmers Daughter
I love a good Oktoberfest–this one’s got the perfect amount of caramel, doughy bread and fresh grains.
This sessionable rye beer–and GABF gold medal winner–is threaded with light caramel, doughy malts and a fantastic rye bread finish.
One of the smoothest Flanders-style reds I’ve ever tried. Acetic sourness nips the tongue while luscious cherry notes sweeten the pot.
BRU Handbuilt Ales Citrum IPA
This beer’s brewed with lemon zest and jasmine–it’s subtle, delicate and won’t hit you over the head.
Cigar City Cucumber Saison
Just imagine how refreshing cucumber-infused water is, then add an incredibly fresh saison. You’ve got to try this one before you leave.
