If you plan on traveling to San Francisco this week, prepare to be at the nexus of all things beer. We all know February’s Stout Month (which has quite the following in Denver), but in the bay area it’s also Strong Beer Month, and at this moment, San Francisco’s Beer Week also happens to be in full swing. In short, if you’re there, you better be reading this post from your phone while ordering another pint.
Two notable beer purveyors are bringing out the big guns for Strong Beer Month, so put away your touristy itinerary and head straight to 21st Amendment Brewery (it’s located near Giants’ home AT&T Park, so you can cross that off your list) then Magnolia Pub and Brewery (based in the Haight, which is probably also on your list). Why? Check out the beer they’re each pouring for Strong Beer Month:
21st Amendment:
Triple Crisis: Triple IPA, 11% ABV
Lord & Master: Strong English blonde, 8.3% ABV
Red Giant: Imperial red ale, 13% ABV
Oaked Drunken Monk: Dark abbey ale, 9.5% ABV
Two Lane Blacktop: Imperial black IPA, 9.8% ABV
Hendrik’s: Imperial stout, 9.5% ABV
Magnolia:
Old Thunderpussy: Barleywine, 11.9% ABV
Smokestack Lighting: Imperial stout, 10.7% ABV
Pride of Branthill: Imperial ESB, 8.9% ABV
Punch You in the Eye: Strong rye ale, 8.0% ABV
Promised Land: Imperial IPA, 11.5% ABV
Tweezer Triple: Abbey Tripel, 10.7% ABV
If you’re only in town for a few hours, don’t miss our San Francisco layover guide—if you’ve got some time to kill, hop across the bay with a little help from our Beertown: Oakland.
