There’s nothing quite like a good chart (note: avoid using that as an ice-breaker). It’s even better when a well-formed chart visually explains something about beer. Mother Jones’ Tom Philpott recently posted an overview of ownership in the U.S. beer industry, and in it he included this pretty amazing chart from Philip Howard, professor at Michigan State University (use the zoom button for a close look, and note the dotted lines represent distribution or partial investment, not total ownership). Now, this chart pretty much lays out what we already know, but it’s still a stunning reminder about who owns whom in the beer industry—not to mention a fun way to avoid work for 5 or 10 minutes.
