Mike Toner decided that nothing goes better with marathon training than brewing.
So he created Marathon Blonde, a Belgian Golden Ale, in honor of his first marathon attempt in Washington D.C. on March 16.
“It made sense to name the beer after the race,” he wrote on his website. “And seeing that it is a blonde ale and I like blondes- well, Marathon Blonde just fit.”
According to his blog, Tone started training Oct. 1 and has completed more than 214 miles in more than 44 cumulative hours to burn more than 30,000 calories. You can calculate how many beers that translates to at http://draftmag.com/calories.
And now he has bigger ambitions. Next he’d like to raise enough money to brew his beer in a professional brewery by setting up a fundraising page at http://rally.org/marathonblonde.
Thanks to Derrick for the heads up, and good luck, Mike!
