What I’m drinking

It’s spring time, which means an excuse for an extended trip to the beer store for new seasonal beers. Here are a few that I’ve been drinking lately, and you can always see a current list on Untappd. I’d like to hear from you in the comments if you have thoughts on these or if you’ve found the perfect spring beer.

Jacked Maibock
Capital Brewing Company 

This is the kind of big, 7.2% ABV, malty, warming beer you want to drink when it’s a cold, wet spring. This was good to have on hand last week after I got hit by sleet and hail during my run.

White Cap IPA
Hinterland Brewing Company

The tastiest IPA I’ve had in recent memory. The Green Bay brewery’s new limited release packs a lot of juicy, hoppy flavor in 4.2% ABV. One other item to note – this is the first bottling I’ve seen from Hinterland in the 12 ounce bottles, which differs from their traditional pint bottles. I’d have gladly welcomed the larger size.

New Glarus Brewing

To me, nothing says changing of the seasons in Wisconsin more than the quintessential Wisconsin beer, New Glarus. This is what you’d expect from New Glarus, an everyman’s beer that provides body to its pilsner.

3 Sheeps Brewing

You can predict that a new brewery (such as this one out of Sheboygan, Wisconsin) will release an amber as one of its first offerings. And there’s no surprise here. This amber, their IPA and wheat beer are all solid and hopefully will gather them a wider audience, because I’d like to see them keep going with a second generation of adventurous beers.

After nearly a whole six pack of these beers, I’m still trying to figure out the English IPA. It’s like a marriage of a sour beer with an American IPA, and it has both bite and tanginess. This is a good choice if you’re in the mood for something different.
