Dogfish Head, pre-race.

Active.com recently posted its list of the “top 10” post-race beer gardens.

Included in the list were the Fremont Oktoberfest 5K, the Colorado Marathon, the Shiner Beer Run Half Marathon and 5K, among others. Breweries featured at the beer gardens include Flying Fish, Odell, Redhook, Finnegan’s and more.

I can’t say I’ve been to any on this list. But I will say the best post-race beer party I’ve been to—by far—was at the Dogfish Head Dash

Dogfish featured a costume contest, an amazing variety of food and beer and bottle-opener medals.

But I’m also not too picky. Have some decent craft beer at the finish line, and I’m happy.

What’s on your list of best post-race beer gardens?

In my ongoing quest to visit breweries all across this great land, I have now surpassed the 400 mark, and they’ve been spread across 37 states and 175+ cities. To celebrate this landmark, I’ve put together a ‘Special Edition’ of Brewery Travels: A rundown of my favorites in each of the states visited so far.

Why a Miller Lite Was the Best Beer I’ve Ever Had

I’ve worked in craft beer for nearly five years now. I’ve had the fortune to try some truly amazing brews: Pliny the Elder, Heady Topper, Bourbon Barrel Aged Expedition Stout. Supplication? I’ve got one in my mini-fridge. The reason I’m telling you this is because I want to frame my statements here properly. I’ve had good beer, trust me. The best beer I’ve ever had, though, was a Miller Lite.

    Active sucks

It’s nice that Flying Fish 5K made this list,

“Starting and finishing at Flying Fish Brewery, this 5K race and finish line party includes live music, lawn games, food trucks and, of course, beer. Past years have featured …”

… but they’ve only run it ONCE so far

Best I’ve been was Grand Rapids Marathon sponsored by New Holland Brewing. All you can drink craft beer about 5 different choices. Was chatting with a guy who finished a bit ahead of me and saying how nice it was that NH donated such good beer and I was glad I did. It turned out to be the owner of New Holland.
