Your Daily Pint for Monday, Sept. 15, 2014 is: BOULEVARD 80-ACRE
What it is: a 5.5%-ABV hoppy wheat beer
What it tastes like: A slightly sweet, fluffy wash of bready wheat carries bright, citrusy hop notes of lemon and orange; a well-matched bitter wave tapers off the swallow for a refreshingly clean, dry finish.
The new wheat: Brewers are injecting new life into the classic pale American wheat beer by adding boatloads of aromatic and bittering hops. Two classic examples are Bell’s Oberon and Three Floyds Gumballhead, but we also love newer offerings from Modern Times and Hangar 24 (as well as Boulevard). Heck, we declared this a trend in 2013 and it shows no sign of slowing down.
Sister collaboration: Earlier today, Boulevard announced its next collaboration, a Spiced Saison with sister brewery Ommegang (both are under the umbrella of Belgian parent company Duvel Moortgat). The beer’s set to release in kegs and 750mL bottles a week from today, and throughout Boulevard’s distribution later this month.
Speaking of distribution: Last week, Boulevard announced it was breaking into the Florida beer market. So Sunshine Staters: Time to pair the sunny, hoppy 80-Acre with a trip to the beach.
