Nearly 35 months ago, I decided I was going to run at least one mile and drink at least one beer every day for the final year of my 20s.

On October 4th, that streak will be exactly three years old, and I’ll be 32. I never expected it to last this long.

So, I decided recently that the three year anniversary is a good time to end the streak.

Why? Mainly, I feel physically and mentally ready for the next challenge. I don’t want to stagnate. I want to keep things fresh.

The streak has been exciting because each day, week and month builds on itself and creates its own milestones. It’s running a full month straight, or trying 100 different types of beer, or running for 1,000 days. Each frontier brings with it anticipation, excitement and a sense of accomplishment.

But now, I want to branch out and explore different types of challenges. Maybe it’s home brewing or completing an ultra marathon. Or maybe it’s just getting back to basics.

I don’t know what’s next yet, and that’s exactly why I want to try something different.

This makes September my final full month of the streak. I intend to go out with a bang. Specifically, I’m running the Dogfish Dash on September 29th. It’s hard to imagine a better race to go out with.

Thanks for being part of this journey.
