Bier Garten in Las Vegas

Bier Garten in Las Vegas

Four new beer gardens ditch German kitsch for street style.

LAS VEGAS
Berry lambic, picnic tables straight from Munich Oktoberfest, real grass; Bier Garten is everything you don’t expect in Sin City rolled into a 24-tap Old Vegas backyard. Order from the wurst menu (try the Golden Slipper, an Andouille sausage crowned with cream cheese, a fried egg and bacon) and brush over some of the 900 plants on Vegas’ only “living wall.”

BROOKLYN
Finally open full-time, Bushwick’s The Well may just be the world’s biggest pub—and it’s definitely one of the coolest. Last month, street artists emblazoned murals across the 15,000-sq.-ft. indoor/outdoor garden, injecting the gritty former factory with new life. And befitting a space that once housed the Hittleman Brewery, a whopping 60 taps and 250 bottles pour everything from Rodenbach Grand Cru to Keegan’s Mothers Milk.

ANN ARBOR, MICH.
When Ann Arbor’s Downtown Home & Garden store shuts for the day, Bill’s Beer Garden comes alive on the asphalt, pouring a mind-blowing, all-Michigan beer lineup from Wolverine State, Dark Horse, OddSide and more. Drinkers in it for the long haul can refuel with global chow from an octet of food carts, while geeks should wait for special events like kombucha-making with the brewers from Unity Vibration.

CHARLESTON
How many ways can you order a beer at Bay Street Biergarten? You can pick one off the digital beer wall, you can ask a bartender for a pint from the 24 handles, you can flag down an iPad-armed server in the bricked-in garden, or you can just pour it yourself at one of the slick booths or communal tables affixed with personal taps.
