Crafting a Different Way of life

DRAFT: Tell us a little about how the drinking team first started.
King: The X-Communicated Mormon Drinking Team began not unlike many group ventures. We are a group of non-practicing Mormon friends from Utah State who began attending the Great American Beer Festival in 1997. Four friends comprise the head of the team (three Bishops and a Cardinal) and today, there are thousands of members we have had the opportunity to bring into the fold.

If there's one message you'd like to impart, what is it?

The X-Communicated Mormon Drinking Team is not anti-Mormon. We are, in fact, technically Mormons and non-Mormons who have been enlightened to history. We believe in living and let living no matter what your beliefs; however, if there is one thing we would "preach," it would be to avoid living a complacent existence.

What's your favorite, most sinfully delicious brew?
I love a Sierra Nevada. I am a big hop/bitter beer fan.

What's surprised you the most since starting the team?
Throughout the different events we have been to or contacted, there are staff who love us and those who would rather not get involved with us. We understand that we are controversial; however, one surprising thing that some festival staff do not understand is that all the "good" Mormons who would be offended by the X-Communicated Mormon Drinking Team and our apparel would rather be caught cheating on their taxes than seen at a beer festival.
