It’s that time of year again, when we pick up a HE’BREW holiday gift pack, roll up our sleeves, and make a beer menorah. This year, we moved the empty shamash bottle from the center and stuck our coveted Jewbelation Sweet 16 bomber in the middle to show it off. Another improvement: tealights. Last year’s menorah looked pretty sweet, but our careful candle placement left our bottles dripping in wax. The tealights make for easier drinking, which is half the point of a beer menorah (right?). Our only problem: waiting until Saturday (the first night of Hanukkah) to pop the first bottle.
But, of course, we know you readers are more creative than we are, which is why we know one of you will win a “fabulous prize” via Shmaltz Brewing’s third annual Beer Menorah Contest. The premise is pretty simple: Buy the gift pack, dream up a creative beer menorah, snap a pic and post it to the brewery’s Facebook page (or, if you’re feeling shy, email it to beermenorah@shmaltzbrewing.com). Coolest menorah wins. L’Chaim!

And so April,7 2008 in effect reneesrpted the final celebration of Anheuser Busch as an American icon. The St.Louis brewery on this date threw a party for its workers on the brewery campus on a beautiful 80 degree day in recognition of the 1933 repeal of prohibition. This was salaried and union. A rarity in itself right there. Budweisers were handed out at will. Looking back on this day it’s almost as if August Busch IV knew the end was near. In a mere seven months the Inbev deal was sealed.
