It’s Feb. 1, and that means one of our all-time favorite beer months has begun: Today begins the 19th annual Stout Month at all three of Colorado’s Mountain Sun Pubs. A lot of our favorite pubs have months dedicated to winter beers or fresh hops, and any era of time dedicated to beer is laudable. But Mountain Sun’s roasty-toasty Stout Month always feels a little more special. Almost all of the brewpub’s taps go dark with stouts they brew themselves, plus guest taps; so first, it’s an awesome way to let Mountain Sun brewers flex their muscles on a single style, and second, it’s cool to sip a single style from several brewers side-by-side. Third, the beers are just plain awesome. From the brewery:
“Dozens of house stouts will be featured, including Oatimus Prime Imperial Oatmeal Stout, Megatron Imperial American Stout, Chocolate Dip Stout, Korova Cream Stout and Old School Irish Stout. The pubs will be showcasing old favorites like Yonder Mountain Stout and the classic Thunder Head Stout. Once again, we will be brewing a scrumptious batch of Cherry Dip Stout (a decadent chocolate stout with sweet cherry puree) as well Coconut Cream Stout, Dark Harvest Pumpkin Stout, and Bourbon Barrel Aged Stoked Oak. We also found out what happens when you load a stout full of hops. We call it Trickster Stout. And as always, our infamous imperial stouts will make an appearance: Usurper Stout, Addiction Coffee Imperial Stout, and Nihilist Imperial Stout.”
You had us at Coconut Cream. (Seriously, if you haven’t sipped Coconut Cream, there is a giant black hole in your beer life.) This year’s guest list looks equally delicious: Look for Avery Czar, Moylan’s Dragoon’s, Victory Storm King Imperial Stout and more. And for the sixth year, Mountain Sun is also hosting a stout homebrew competition; the winner gets to brew their recipe on the brewery’s system. Keep watch on MountainSunPub.com for all of the month’s events.
