Zymurgy voters name America’s best beers

Zymurgy, the magazine of the American Homebrewers Association, released its annual “Best Commerical Beers in America” poll results yesterday; the vote showed an affinity for hoppy beers, with eight of the top 10 beers being pale ales, IPAs or double IPAs. The voters’ favorite beer was perennial favorite Pliny the Elder, a double IPA from California’s Russian River Brewing.

Behind Pliny ranked hop-forward brews like Bell’s Two Hearted Ale and Dogfish Head 90 Minute IPA, plus three hoppy brands from Californa’s Sierra Nevada Brewing. The only malt-leaning beers to grace the top 10: Stone’s American strong ale, Arrogant Bastard, and North Coast’s Russian imperial stout, Old Rasputin. Read the entire list at the Brewers Association’s website.

Now in its 10th year, the Zymurgy poll received a record number of 16,445 votes from around the world.
