Ommegang Glimmerglass

CATEGORIES: Daily Pint

Your Daily Pint for Thursday, March 13, 2014 is: OMMEGANG GLIMMERGLASS

What it is: a 5.4%-ABV saison brewed with orange peel and pink peppercorns

What it tastes like: This straw-hued beer greets the nose with earthy hay and delicate peppery spice. A refreshing, effervescent wash of wheat carries subtle citrus notes; muted pink peppercorns build into the finish and sharpen the prickly swallow.

About the name: Glimmerglass is the name author James Fenimore Cooper gave Otsego Lake—located in Ommegang’s hometown of Cooperstown, N.Y.—in his novel series “The Leatherstocking Tales.”

Ommegang on books: “The Leatherstocking Tales” isn’t the only book in which Ommegang has mined inspiration. The brewery’s well-publicized series of “Game of Thrones” beers owes credit to George R.R. Martin’s “A Song of Fire and Ice” series—look for the newest installment, Fire and Blood ale, at the end of March.

Books we hope it tackles next: A series of beers designed to pair with specific dishes, inspired by “The Hunger Games” trilogy.
