Petition calls to get beer mile in the games

We can dream, right?

“We’re serious.”

That’s how World of Beer describes their petition to elevate the beer mile into an Olympics event.

“Yesterday’s fringe sport has evolved into a challenging, competitive and much-loved pastime,” the petition Call-to-Action states. “If tug-of-war can be in the games, why not beer mile? Let’s get it into the world’s games. Are you with us?”

They are right that the beer mile has transformed from an underground activity to a legitimate (maybe?) event covered by the Wall Street Journal and ESPN.

One of the beer mile’s fastest-rising stars has a six-figure paycheck from a beer and running race series, and recently the world record was lowered to an insane 4:34 at the World Beer Mile Classic.

All in all, it’s a smart promotion for World of Beer. The petition promotes the Brew Mile race series, and everyone who signs the petition gets a free beer voucher at World of Beer. Signing the petition also means they get your email address, so expect some promotional emails to come your way if you do sign your name.

Will adding your name to this list mean that we expect a beer mile event in 2020? Probably not. But we can all dream.
