Oak notes—courtesy of the giant oak staves the beer aged in—weave through this complex imperial stout. A spectacular roasted malt and caramel aroma blends with hints of oak and vanilla; dig deeper to pull out licorice and hazelnut. Creamy espresso and caramel, shaded by wisps of peat smoke, soak the tongue, while quiet oak ties the swallow together. In the back, coffee beans crescendo before roasted malts, hop bitterness and stealthy alcohol clean up the tongue.
