Awhile ago I decided if I ever win the lottery, I’m going to open a craft beer and running shoe store called The Beer Run.
Unfortunately, I’ve yet to win the lottery. And in the meantime, another store has beat me to the finish line with this business model.
This July, Shoes & Brews is set to open in Longmont, Colorado and will feature running shoes, coaching and Colorado craft beers. This city is also home to Left Hand Brewery and the state has the ideal demographic to support the beer runner lifestyle.
According to the Times Call, the store is the brainchild of former collegiate runner and Colorado state track champion Colin Anderson. While he was working on his masters in business and economics, the idea came to him to combine two of his favorite passions — beer and running.
Two local running coaches will be running the shoe side of the business, which includes gait analysis and workshops. As for the beer, Shoes and Brews will carry at least 20 Colorado craft beers in the taproom or outdoor patio. They also plan on having a one-barrel brewing system to produce one new beer each month, and plan to serve local foods from vendors, according to the Times Call.
As one blogger suggested, this could start a trend. Will we next see stores called Cheers & Beers, Pace & Pints, Long-Distance Lagers — or as I mentioned earlier, The Beer Run?
Do you think this concept has legs?
Update: Shoes & Brews announced their grand opening will be Friday, July 25
