Time of the season

/ 0

Two new breweries harness the harvest to make beers that reflect local, seasonal flavors. Nashville’s Jackalope Brewing—helmed by Bailey Spaulding and Robin Virball, making it the nation’s first woman-owned brewery—makes rotating small batches brewed with fresh ingredients like thyme, honey and beets. A blueberry Baltic porter debuts this fall. In St. Louis, Phil Wymore (formerly of Half Acre and Goose Island) teamed with his wife to open Perennial Artisan Ales. On top of a handful of mainstays, the duo produces “In Season” beers like a blackberry-basil Berliner weisse and a spiced ale brewed with kabocha squash.

Why a Miller Lite Was the Best Beer I’ve Ever Had

I’ve worked in craft beer for nearly five years now. I’ve had the fortune to try some truly amazing brews: Pliny the Elder, Heady Topper, Bourbon Barrel Aged Expedition Stout. Supplication? I’ve got one in my mini-fridge. The reason I’m telling you this is because I want to frame my statements here properly. I’ve had good beer, trust me. The best beer I’ve ever had, though, was a Miller Lite.
