The Cleveland Plain Dealer recently profiled chefs and restaurant owners who manage to stay in great shape despite being surrounded by temptations.

One of them is Sam McNulty, owner of Market Garden Brewery, Bar Cento and Bier Markt. McNulty is 6-foot-2 and weighs 165 pounds — and drinks 5-6 beers a day.

And that’s not lite beer.

“The mass-produced beers you get in the store use a lot of corn, which will make you fat,” McNulty told the paper. “We use rye, barley and wheat.”

McNulty lifts weights, does occasional yoga and walks and bikes for transportation – since he doesn’t own a car. As a result, he weighs the same as he did in high school.

It goes to show once again that you don’t need to deny yourself your favorite beer if you live a healthy, active way of life.

“It’s part of a lifestyle,” McNulty said, “which really helps when the other part of your lifestyle is drinking beer.”

Goes to show that it is in fact possible! I don’t weigh what I did in high school, but I am quite light for the amount of beer I consume. Cheers!
