Your Daily Pint for Thursday, Aug. 28, 2014 is: DESTIHL HOPERATION OVERLOAD
What it is: a 9.6%-ABV, 85-IBU imperial IPA
What it tastes like: An inviting aroma of orange, grapefruit and strawberry preludes a fruit-forward, hoppy sip. Creamy malts carry bright lemon, passion fruit, grapefruit and strawberry notes across the tongue; in the back, assertive alcohol and bitterness wrangle the sip for a dry, warming conclusion.
New releases: The Illinois brewery recently started canning this beer, it’s Strawberry Blonde and Abbey’s Single, with Vortex IPA slated to hit cans later this year.
What about the sours? If you didn’t already know, Destihl makes some amazing fruit-spiked sours under the Saint Dekkera Reserve Sour Ales brand (read our first introduction to them at GABF a few years back). Well, big news: According to brewmaster Matt Potts, the stuff is expected to release for the first time in bottles, along with its new Wild Sour Series, sometime this fall!
Brewery to watch: Last year, we tagged Destihl as a “Brewery to Watch.” Read the whole story here, which includes a few other familiar names (Night Shift, Tired Hands, etc.).
