Your Daily Pint for Thursday, April 17, 2014, is: HOUBLON CHOUFFE DOBBELEN IPA TRIPEL
What it is: A 9%-ABV Belgian IPA (which still falls under the “specialty beer” category).
What it tastes like: Hops on a Belgian-yeast high. Strong floral and pine hop flavors push against loud, sweet yeast notes of banana, green apple and sweet hay; a low hum of bready malt is the bass line. The flavor combo’s complex, but the mouthfeel’s quite temperate, so it rides right down.
Why it matters: The beer is one of Belgium’s responses to a suddenly hop-hungry audience; read up on the Belgian hop movement here.
Free the gnomes: Did you know? There’s another European movement happening, and its goal is to free garden gnomes from their leafy prisons. Garden Gnome Liberation began in France; join the Front de Libération des Nains de Jardins here.
