On being busy

So many beers, so little time

The end of March means that we’re 1/4 of the way through the year. Time is flying.

It’s been awhile since I’ve felt this busy. I’m teaching a class, taking two more classes toward my MBA degree, coaching Team Challenge on the weekends, and attempting to balance regular work and family life. At times it can feel a bit overwhelming.

At the same time, I’ve managed to keep up my daily beer and running streak. To date it’s 910 days and counting.

With everything going on, you’d think the option of running and drinking beer should be the first thing to go. That might be the rational thing to do so I have more time to write papers or study derivatives.

But on the contrary, my daily habit is one thing that’s keeping me sane. I know it’s one thing that I’m doing for myself. Knowing I can take this time for myself makes me want to buckle down when I need to.

Of course, I’ve had to be smarter about how I indulge in these treats. It’s been a long time since I’ve allowed myself a double digit trail run, and I do miss that. I’m squeezing in my run more often now by running to work, and I’ve limited myself to one beer instead of three on several occasions. I know, big sacrifices.

The truth is, we’re all busy. We all have 24 hours in a day. It’s about how we use them. And I choose to use them with beer and running.

The new IPA

Cloudy, hugely flavorful and a lot less bitter, the new breed of IPA is earning high scores and high praise from fans.

And you’re an inspiration for doing so, Tim. You should have some sort of celebration for 1,000!

This is inspiring to me! I am also at the end of the completion of my MBA and am training for the Pittsburgh marathon. Running and beer are two great parts of my life that I look to keep around no matter what my future endeavors are. Thank you for your postings!
