If you aren’t already following not-so-amateur mixologist Joseph Tkach’s blog, MeasureAndStir.com, bookmark it now. His cocktail recipes (and the blog itself) are refreshingly minimalistic, focusing on flavor purity and unfussy blends. You’ll find beer in the mix, like this dreamy Stouthearted cocktail, which rounds off stout and coffee roast with almond-strawberry sweetness.

Makes: 1

  • 1½ ounces coffee-infused bourbon (try Evan Williams)
  • 1½ ounces fresh strawberry juice
  • 1 ounce Amaretto
  • 3 ounces oatmeal stout
  • coffee beans, for garnish

Combine the bourbon, strawberry juice and Amaretto in a shaker; shake over ice and double-strain into an Old Fashioned glass. Top with the stout and garnish by floating coffee beans on the foam.
