When speaking of alt beers, there's one that always comes to mind first: Diebels. This German brewery makes several quality brews, but its alt is perhaps its best. It is still brewed according to the German Purity Law, and the high standards shine through in the final product. The malt and noble hops are perfectly balanced and come out in the nose, despite the fact that this beer is in a green bottle. The skunkiness was also only slightly perceptible in the flavor, so the beer was still very enjoyable. The head could have been longer-lasting, but the carbonation ended up being very good and complemented the crisp clean finish. Our only serious complaint is that this beer was a bit too watery in the middle of the swallow so the toasted and fruity flavors didn't have a chance to shine.
