Barrel-Aged Scarface Imperial Stout

RATING
83

Speakeasy aged a portion of its Scarface imperial stout in bourbon barrels for a year, then blended that back with 2015’s fresh batch. The result is an inky black beer with an intense dark caramelized sugar aroma, like the top of a very well-done creme brulee. The sip introduces a deep, ashy malt base, perked up by vanilla highlights. The bourbon barrel character bides its time; alcohol warms the back of the throat at the swallow and lingers at the top of the palate.
