Brewing commercially in Chicago since 2013, Middle Brow makes this American take on a Belgian farmhouse beer and has also released a red wine barrel-aged version with peaches. Savor it for its simultaneous subtlety and complexity: a house yeast strain contributes white peppercorn spice, light lemon and a hint of farmhouse hay to the nose, with complementary soft minty hops in the background. While sweet notes of golden raisin and honey malt lead the sip, cracked peppercorn, clove and quiet funk arrive a beat later to deepen the flavor. The carbonation holds sip after sip, leaving the palate refreshed and eager for more.
