Meantime isn't the first brewery to add coffee to a beer, but it just might do it better than anyone else. This ale pours nicely, with an opaque black color with a touch of garnet. The chocolate and barley smells provide a nice backbone to the main aroma of this brew: obviously, coffee. Often this style can hit some pitfalls; the flavor can become harsh and too coffee-laden. in this beer, though, the coffee flavors are just strong enough to complement the natural beer flavors. Licorice notes blend with the chocolate and coffee overtures, giving off some wonderful flavors that dance on the tongue. Hop flavors are sadly minimal, and the few that are there are overwhelmed by the deeper malt flavors.
