Mission St. Pale Ale

This 2008 GABF gold medalist pours clear, pale gold, and wears a sturdy crown. Fragrant grapefruit and pepper scents, brushed by honey malt sweetness, float upward and delight the nose. The swallow begins with a dry, delicate grain sensation punctuated by a sweet, sugary note. After making their initial statement, the grains move out of the way for a fanciful hop display, illuminating grapefruit, fresh cracked pepper, and pine flavors. Abundant bitterness almost pushes this beer into IPA territory, but it ultimately loosens its grip on the tongue toward the end of the drink leaving a clean, dry finish.
