Sly Fox literally has this style in the can. It pours dark and very cloudy, a beautiful golden brown with a thin but persistent big-bubble head. The usual suspects thread the bouquet, twisting from clove to banana to lemon and sewn together by a ribbon of acidic wheat scents. The swallow, however, proves this beer’s got muscle, sinking into the tongue with dense, chewy wheat, and lemon acidity. An aggressive hop bite adds complexity, and though that’s a gamble in this style, it works well here primarily because the meaty wheat character balances out the kick so well. Zippy lemon sparkles, juicy orange touches, and sodalike carbonation ornament the wheat-hop interplay. A crisp, clean finish punctuates the swallow.
