Atlas is made with a heavy hand of hops and barley. A tan, frothy head sticks to the glass as it slowly dissipates, while perfumelike, piney and flowery hops, and a wallop of alcohol fill the nose. Caramel malt sugars greet the tongue first, settling in along the sides and bracing for an attack of hops armed with sticky, piney and grapefruit flavors and assertive bitterness. The beer is assuredly big, with a high alcohol presence, slightly sweet finish, and long-lasting toffee aftertaste. Atlas drinks like a malty double IPA, or even an imperial red; the body is a bit heavy for an American IPA.
