Today’s International Stout Day, and I never pass up an opportunity to tip back a roasty, chewy beer. Consider this post more of a pictorial—well, there’s at least one picture. This holiday inspired me to do a quick dip into DRAFT’s cellar to see what apropos brew I could pull out, and I came out with a few. On the left, Deschutes The Abyss vintages 2011, 2010 and 2009. On the right, Goose Island Bourbon County Stout vintages 2010, 2008 and 2007. In the middle, a just-in release from Brasserie Dupont, Monk’s Stout Dupont. It’s been a while since we’ve done a vertical tasting in the office, and International Stout Day seems as good of an excuse as any.

Are you cracking open any vintage stouts tonight to celebrate the holiday?

I’m wishing I had some Odell Bourbon Barrel Stout. Although with wood aged beers the will it sour question always stands. The 8 Wired iStout from New Zealand is a safe bet. It already tastes like it’s been aged for at least 3 years and I’m sure it could age for 3 more.
