Today’s International Stout Day, and I never pass up an opportunity to tip back a roasty, chewy beer. Consider this post more of a pictorial—well, there’s at least one picture. This holiday inspired me to do a quick dip into DRAFT’s cellar to see what apropos brew I could pull out, and I came out with a few. On the left, Deschutes The Abyss vintages 2011, 2010 and 2009. On the right, Goose Island Bourbon County Stout vintages 2010, 2008 and 2007. In the middle, a just-in release from Brasserie Dupont, Monk’s Stout Dupont. It’s been a while since we’ve done a vertical tasting in the office, and International Stout Day seems as good of an excuse as any.

    I’m wishing I had some Odell Bourbon Barrel Stout. Although with wood aged beers the will it sour question always stands. The 8 Wired iStout from New Zealand is a safe bet. It already tastes like it’s been aged for at least 3 years and I’m sure it could age for 3 more.
