Watch this: “Bills and Brews”

Last night, while finishing the first season of “House of Cards,” it dawned on me that the beer industry—from brewing to distribution to legislation—would make a compelling setting for a political drama. That’s never going to happen, but we do have “Bills and Brews,” a new series that just launched its pilot episode on YouTube yesterday.

The episode shows a lot of promise. Host Matt Laslo, a congressional reporter, sits down with Rep. Peter DeFazio (OR-D) inside Washington, D.C.’s Bluejacket to sample some Beaver State beers, talk about craft beer issues, and discuss—what else?—politics. It’s a candid eight-minute interview paired with supplemental material: A two-minute video entitled “Extracts for Craft Beer Lovers” (featuring beery anecdotes) and the 10-minute video “Extracts for Political Junkies,” delving deeper into political issues.

For political wonks and beer geeks, the show looks like a pretty fun, enlightening marriage of both worlds.

Which politician would you like to see on the show?
